Consilium'08: The Consulting Conclave

MBA batch under the aegis of Department of IME is going to organize the annual consulting conclave of IIT Kanpur, Consilium’08. The objective of this event is to create a platform where confluence of leading professionals from consultancy and vast student community can take place. As consultancy has become one of the most preferred career choice for IITians , Consilium'08 will provide them the opportunity to learn about the nunaces of consultancy in various domains. From a humble start, it has been envisaged that Consilium will become the platform in coming years where representatives from across the spectrum of consultancy will share their knowledge, experience and insight with students.

The event has generated enthusiasm among all sections of IITK students and students from other major B-Schools who are also expected to participate. Case solving competition is one of the attraction of Consilium '08 in which winners shall get certificates and attractive cash prizes. Apart from case study contest, lecture series on current hot topics in consulting and panel discussion form part of Consilium ’08.

The event will be held on 9th and 10th August 2008. The conclave would feature the following events:
  • Lecture Series from Industry and Academia on ‘Emerging Challenges and Opportunities in Consulting’.
  • Panel discussion: ‘Merger & Acquisition’.Consulting
  • Case Presentation.
  • Consulting Case Competition for Students

Some of the companies to have confirmed participation in the event include TCS, Satyam, IDFC, IL & FS, Bristlecone etc. A couple more companies are likely to confirm their participation in the conclave. Finer details are available on the website. The topics of the lecture series encompass several issues ranging from role of consulting in manufacturing to consulting for retailing and rural marketing. Especially with sectors like retail beginning to grow at a rapid pace in our country, the lecture promises to provide interesting insights into these issues.

Consilium ’08 is poised to provide its audience a rich learning experience.

Tips from Top - "Various dimensions of leadership." Mr Amit Kasliwal, India Head - Corporate Sales, Ford India.

Leadership is one of the most desired traits for success in life and MBA students at IIT Kanpur were fortunate to get a fresh perspective on the topic from the top echelon of corporate world, when Mr Amit Kasliwal, India head of corporate sales at Ford India visited the campus to interact with the students.

Sir described leadership as the zeal to identify and solve problems. Citing an example, sir said that India has a myriad of problems and out of those; transportation was one of the major issues. Ford is dedicated to solve this problem. Talking specifically about the corporate sales department, he told that by selling cars to taxi operators, they created entrepreneurs, thereby solving the problem of job creation at that level.

International Exposure: Japan, Utkarsh Maurya, MBA 2nd Year

JENESYS 2016 from 27th Feb to 7 March 2017. About JENESYS 2016 The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan promotes people-to-people exchanges between Japan and the various nations of the Asia-Pacific, North America, Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean regions. The Asian and Oceanian regional component of this exchange program is called “JENESYS 2016”- Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths. Around 250 students and working professionals were invited for the 7th batch of JENESYS 2016 (Theme: Economics) from 12 countries: India, Indonesia, Cambodia, Philippines, Singapore, Timor-Leste, Thailand, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Brunei and Vietnam. The objective is to promote mutual trust and understanding among the people of Japan and participating countries, and regions, to build a basis for future friendship and cooperation.
