ALUMNI CONNECT- "Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence" by Mr.Nitin Aggarwal, Quantitaive Analyst, Google

The Department of Industrial and Management Engineering, IIT Kanpur had the opportunity to host a Webinar by Mr. Nitin Agarwal, Quantitative Analyst, Google. The Alumni committee of MBA holds the credit for organizing the webinar. An alumnus of MBA-IIT Kanpur, Nitin Agarwal gave a lot of insight into the world of Machine learning.   The webinar started with the speaker asking our views on Machine Learning. As he explained Machine Learning is the process of making lot of small decisions so as to get an end outcome. The basic objective of machine learning is not to memorize older data set but to recognize a pattern from the given data so as to be able to take decisions on newer data set.   This is where it differs from Statistics. There is nothing better than getting important insights about the real world from someone with immense experience. The exposure becomes even more valuable when the knowledge comes directly from the top and from someone who has been in our situation prior to their glorious journey. The students at MBA IIT Kanpur were fortunate to get such a golden opportunity when the 1977 batch Alumnus of the institute, Mr. J N Gupta, M.D. at Stakeholders Empowerment Services, visited the campus during the recent 40 th year reunion. Mr. Anshul Garg, an alumnus of IIT Kanpur (MBA batch of 2005-07), currently the Director and V.P. at Centrum Capital Ltd, delivered a seminar on Banking and Finance as a part of ‘Pragyan’ during 'Prabandhan - 2016' . The following are the excerpts from this interactive session. The discussion spanned across banking scenario in India, technology in banking and future scope in finance. As told by him, the motivation behind a career in banking is the fact that presently out of $5600 billion wealth in India; only $250 billion is actually in investment which he told implied a huge scope for wealth management and investment. 13th October, 2012 - Day 3, Antragni! A mood of festivity as well as inquisitiveness. This eagerness was all about our chance, batch of 2014 to have an informal session with our super seniors, batch of 2012. Few of them namely Aayush Jain, Isha Sood, Paridhi Mutreja, Prashant Jain and Rubal Mehta came to cherish the occasion of Antragni. After having stepped into corporate life, this was their first occasion to visit the Alma Mater, to refresh their memories. Alumni Interaction @IITK - Visit by Shamim Akhtar (MBA 2007)

It was a dull, humid Sunday evening and despite the dullness in air, there was a buzz of excitement among the students of MBA2013 and 2012, who had gathered in front of canteen of Hall 8. We were all very eager to meet Mr. Shamim Akhtar, an alumnus of MBA, batch of 2007, from IIT Kanpur. He has worked in SBI Caps for 3 years after his MBA and is currently working in Arab National Bank in Saudi Arabia. After a wait of around 15 minutes, Mr. Shamim – a very young looking, smartly dressed person - reached the canteen. He was quickly introduced to us by a student from our senior batch after which we all settled in a circle in the open air and the much awaited informal session with him began. After a self intro, he was bombarded with questions from everybody who had gathered.
