“Need for Shift”, says Hemant Shah, Founder of Priority Jewels Pvt Ltd., while interacting with MBA Students at IIT Kanpur

The MBA batch of 2013-2015 at IIT Kanpur, was lucky to be facilitated by an extremely interactive session with a distinguished alumnus of IIT Kanpur, having around 35 years of experience in the industry. Mr. Hemant Shah, being one of the eminent speakers and guest lecturers in colleges like SPJIMR shared his views, on why there is a “need for shift” in industry and made the students’ think from a managerial perspective.

The area primarily covered was “Innovation”, its need, how do they do it, and what differentiates a leader from an employee. While the focus remained innovation, he also covered some of the essential topics like Wealth Creation, Branding, Strategizing and consistent improvement and improvisation of ideas over a period of time. Citing examples from the Diamond industry, he influenced one’s perspective, to think, plan and act with a positive mindset.

The students showed immense curiosity while asking him questions regarding branding, the establishment of businesses, and the perspective he has, over the growth of Indian Economy. Being little witty at times, and quite subtle in the next moment, he truly took everyone by surprise. The last few minutes, he took to make us think, about the things which really matter in life, and those are “FFC” as he called it, Friends, Family and Colleagues.
It was an honor for the MBA Department that Mr. Hemant Shah shared his wisdom with our students and guided them for a better future and helped them preparing for the industry shift which will happen in the years to come. We are thankful for his sheer presence and kind personality which makes him so different from the rest.

1.      Learning is not confined only to classrooms As the first semester is over, I realize that apart from classroom subject matter, there are a lot more things that I have learnt here. Learning takes place in almost every aspect of one's life at MBA IIT K. The induction activities that our seniors conducted before the official start of the semester was a great way to interact with the batch-mates. Every week, we had eminent speakers from various top positions in the corporate world, sharing topics that they were passionate about which helped us to constantly expand our knowledge base into new areas. 2.        Be prepared to leave behind your comfort   zone In the class yo...

MBA @ IIT Kanpur: More than just an MBA

The season of summer internship has already started for MBA batch of 2013. All have already joined their respective summer-organizations and seem to be enjoying the work and the change. For some it’s a break from campus life and much awaited break from study. College graduates who don’t take a “working” break and join MBA program find an opportunity to earn their first salary-a beautiful experience which I need not explain for obvious reason. While the excitement among fresh college graduates about summer internship is understandable, experienced students cannot be left in exception either. They are found equally excited. Perhaps the break from study is the main reason. The formal attires, which feel ignored for a long time, find a chance to breathe in free air; otherwise the formal attires, at least at IITK, become like a bride’s Shadi ka joda which makes special and rare appearance only. However, when it comes to IIT Kanpur you find an exception. The excitement about summer int...
