Inauguration of the 8th edition of Prabandhan, the Annual management conclave of IITK

The 27th of September marked the beginning of the much awaited 8th edition of the Annual management conclave of IIT Kanpur, Prabandhan. The MBA students of IIT Kanpur, hosts to this event, gave a warm opening speech, introducing esteemed faculty Dr. Rahul Varman, Dr. Devlina Chatterjee and keynote speaker of the day Abhinav Johri. The conclave began with the auspicious lighting of the lamp followed by insightful speeches by Dr. Varman and Dr. Chatterjee. The event hosted Mr. Abhinav Johri, currently director and practice head at EY India as he spoke about Versatility and it's paradox in changing times. MBA IIT Kanpur community were pleased to host Mr Pradipta Sahoo for a seminar on “HR Readiness for Industry 4.0” on 7th April 2019. Mr Sahoo, CHRO, Karvy Fintech, is a seasoned HR professional with over 25 years of experience in BFSI, Retail and ITES industries. He has also been awarded as part of “30 Best HR Leaders” in 2013 by World HRD Congress. He is presently associated with Karvy Fintech Private Limited as CHRO for more than eight years now. MBA IIT Kanpur organised a guest lecture by Mr. Ravi Kaushik, Country Business Director at Medtronic for a session on ‘Design Thinking: Innovating in emerging markets’. Mr. Kaushik gave a brief idea about the difference between invention and innovation. Where invention is about creating a new solution to a problem, innovation is trying to solve the problem in a better way, by bringing together existing technology. He cited the example of Uber which is trying to solve the problem of transportation using the internet through a new business model. He talked about the two sides to marketing – downstream and upstream. Downstream marketing is mostly associated with product promotion, public relations, and advertising. Upstream marketing, on the other hand, focuses more on the strategy and analytics behind fulfilling the customers’ needs.
